May 11, 2023 View all news Commenting on the announcement of the results of the first offshore wind energy auction, Friends of the Earth Chief Executive, Oisín Coghlan said:"This is a landmark day for Ireland. We just have to get this wind energy online by 2030. It’s the best way to get off dirty, expensive, imported fossil gas and power our future with clean, affordable and reliable Irish renewables."At the same time, we must make sure that coastal communities are properly consulted during planning and that we protect nature around the wind farms. And state agencies and civil society need to be properly resourced to make this possible."We can be proud of what we have already achieved in renewable power. Ireland is already a world leader at integrating wind energy onto our grid.
