Friends of the Earth to kick off Big Ask Tour in Limerick

Roadshow of climate change talks starts on Thursday 2nd April

Friends of the Earth will be holding a multimedia presentation on climate change in the Absolute Hotel in Limerick at 7pm on Thursday 2nd April. The talk is called "The Big Ask: Can we stop climate change?" and is the first stop on a nationwide tour. Friends of the Earth has teamed up with Gavin Harte for the Big Ask Tour. Gavin is a high profile spokesperson on environmental and sustainability issues in Ireland for many years. Admission to the event is free.

Speaking at the launch of the tour Gavin Harte said

"For most of us the climate change story is often be confusing, contradictory and chaotic. For every argument on the size of the problem, its seriousness, its cause or reversibility, there seems to be another voice declaring the exact opposite. Now, for the first time the world's leading scientists are united in the scientific evidence for and the potential impacts of climate change. The big question now is 'is humanity up for the challenge?'".

Oisin Coghlan, Friends of the Earth Director said

"Climate change is the biggest challenge facing humanity in the 21st century and each of us has to decide how to respond. We're delighted that Gavin is taking his unique style and irrepressible optimism on the road with us to give people what they need to be able to rise to the climate challenge."

Gavin was the founder and developer of Ireland's first eco-village in Cloughjordan Co Tipperary. He has worked as an educator, a TV presenter and a musician and as national director of An Taisce. With RTE he presented the very popular travel series "Across the Line", backpacking overland from Dublin to Australia on a budget of just £25 a day.

The Big Ask Tour is an exciting mix of photographs, video clips, and animations which documents the enormous influence human activity is having on our planets climate, the serious impacts these are likely to have on all of us and what we can do about it.

Friends of the Earth is the world's largest network of environmental groups with over one million supporters and activists organised in 70 countries around the world. Across 17 European countries national Friends of the Earth groups have come together to promote action on climate change under the banner of The Big Ask.
