We're looking for supporters who would like to join the Board

We’re expanding our Board at Friends of the Earth. And we're asking you - and all our supporters - to consider putting their name forward. If you are interested, then fill in this application form before 5pm on 15th March.

Friends of the Earth is a small and nimble organisation campaigning for environmental justice in Ireland and globally as part of the Friends of the Earth International federation. Our vision is of a just world where people and nature thrive.

It’s an exciting time for the environmental movement in Ireland and globally as we campaign for a just and equitable transition to a fossil-free future, call for a re-think on unsustainable resource consumption and work in solidarity and partnership with communities and other movements for justice.

Being a Friends of the Earth Board member is a fantastic opportunity to be at the heart of this important work.

The Board works closely with the director and the staff team to implement our strategic plan and ensure the good governance and financial sustainability of the organisation. The Board is currently leading a process of organisational development, improving our governance systems and exploring innovative ways of working.

While we leave the day to day campaigning in the capable hands of the staff, we do act as a sounding-board (no pun intended!) when needed, and often the meetings involve some collective strategizing about pressing issues or ongoing work programmes.

As an organization we want our Board to represent the diversity of our supporters as well as communities and groups facing environmental injustices. We are committed to working to overcome barriers to supporters joining the Board, including people’s financial situation, geographical location and accessibility needs.

Board members receive reimbursement for their expenses as well as the opportunity to train and up-skill themselves in a range of areas.

We expect to receive more applications than we have positions to fill and will form a panel of people from which we can draw to fill future vacancies as required.
