Earlier this month we hosted a special webinar on community owned renewable energy. Missed it? Well, don’t worry, we recorded it so you can watch it back at this link or in the screen below.

We were delighted to be joined by Molly Walsh from Friends of the Earth Europe. Molly shared some inspiring stories from her new book, Community Energy: A practical guide to reclaiming power - which you can download here.

We were also privileged to be joined by Derry O’Donnell from Community Power. Derry told us how the community behind Templederry Wind Farm has grown to support the newest community solar farms in Mayo and Galway. He also told us how they set up the Community Power supply company to be a vehicle to buy and sell community owned renewable energy.

We got some insight from Minister for Climate Action, Eamon Ryan, on plans for supporting community energy initiatives in Ireland. He said he is hopeful for a separate support for 100% community owned projects in the next renewable electricity auction - and promised that microgenerators will be able to sell excess power in the new year. These will be huge wins for the community energy sector in Ireland. Being able to build a business plan for community energy projects is essential. And the key to that is knowing that you will be allowed to sell your product! So we'll be holding him to these promises in 2021.
