Update on our Learning Hub

Our Learning Hub is a carefully curated space for discussion, critical thinking, peer education and building a sense of solidarity.

We run webinars and workshops that are loosely based on themes emerging from books we have chosen as Learning Hub “core texts”.

Our current books are:

• Climate Justice: Hope, Resilience, and the Fight for a Sustainable Future by Mary Robinson.
• Violent Borders: Refugees and the Right to Move by Reece Jones.
• On Fire: The Burning Case for a Green New Deal by Naomi Klein.
• Hope in the Dark: Untold Histories, Wild Possibilities by Rebecca Solnit

The last few months have been a busy time for our Learning Hub.

In August we ran a workshop to explore issues emerging from Naomi Klein’s book about the Green New Deal. We were delighted to be joined by Dipti Bhatnagar for this workshop, who is the International Programme Coordinator for Climate Justice and Energy at Friends of the Earth International.

We also hosted a second workshop based on the book “Violent Borders” in August. Building on our first webinar on this issue, we dug deeper into the connections between climate change and migration and explored key concepts such as freedom and movement. We were joined by Daniel Macmillen Voskoboynik for this workshop who led us through a reflective and engaging process.

Our Learning Hub turned to the issue of eco-anxiety and Active Hope in September. We hosted two events that revolved around the book “Hope in the Dark: Untold Histories, Wild Possibilities” by Rebecca Solnit. Dr. Declan Mulligan from Irish Doctors for Environment helped us explore the issue of eco-anxiety for our first event which was recorded - you might like to watch is back here.

We were then joined by Undercurrent Education for our second event on this book, who facilitated an Active Hope inspired workshop for us, drawing on the work of Joanna Macy and her “Work that Reconnects” model.
