The Future is Rural Festival - October 4th & 5th

Celebrating sustainable food, farming and community energy

Come along to 'The Future is Rural', a sustainable rural futures fair on October 4 and 5, in Ballina, County Mayo.

Delivered by Foodture, the Irish Environmental Network and Friends of the Earth, this event includes film screenings, talks, stalls, demonstrations and children's workshops, all focussed on building sustainable rural futures through food, farming and community energy.

In Our Hands: Seeding Change

6 - 9pm, Friday, October 4, 2019

The first part of this event is a screening in the museum's AV Theatre of the award-winning and thought-provoking documentary In Our Hands: Seeding Change. This will be followed by a lively panel discussion with foodies, farmers, activists and experts.

In Our Hands: Seeding Change is a 2017 documentary about a UK movement of farmers and food activists concerned with the modern food system, food sovereignty, sustainability, rural traditions and innovations.

Family fair

10am - 4.30pm, Saturday, October 5, 2019

Enjoy a fun and family-friendly fair, showcasing change makers and innovators in sustainable food, farming and power.

Join in a range of interactive family workshops throughout the day in the marquee.

Learn how to save seeds with Irish Seed Savers; explore soil health; hear about growing in small spaces with The Salad Bowl Project; look at zero waste with PAX; go on a slow food forage walk; and see a bio digester in action!

In the Museum's AV Theatre, watch a selection of short films throughout the day on themes of sustainable food and farming, followed by discussions on how to eat better for people, place and planet.

This event is organised by Foodture, the Irish Environmental Network and Friends of the Earth.
