Reporting back from our Solar Schools Assemblies

View all news

Friends of the Earth invited schools from across Ireland to participate in our online regional Solar School Youth Assemblies to share their visions for a sustainable future in Ireland.

We believe schools can play a vital role in the energy transition! And help ensure that this transition is both fast and fair. This is why it’s so important to make sure students have opportunities to learn about what a Just Transition means and to connect with and share their demands with decision makers.

We were joined by Deputy Eoin Ó Broin who listened to students’ demands and by Jerry Mac Evilly, Head of Policy Change at Friends of the Earth, who explored some of the challenges and opportunities for schools and their role in a just transition to a decarbonized future. We were also joined by Sinead Morgan, Campaign Officer with Concern, who explored the Sustainable Development Goals with us - focusing on clean and affordable energy (SDG 7) and climate action (SDG 13).

Through the Solar Schools Programme we have been collecting youth visions for a just and renewable energy transition during multiple workshops.

Take a look at some of the creative visions students shared with us for what they imagine a sustainable school of the future could look like below.
