March 28, 2009 View all news The new climate change movie starring Pete Postlethwaite, The Age of Stupid, runs in the Irish Film Institute (IFI) in Dublin until Friday. In association with the the IFI, Friends of the Earth is holding a panel discussion on Thursday the 9th at 5.45pm before the last screening of the film. The title of the discussion is "Not Stupid: Rising to the Climate Challenge" and will be chaired by Friends of the Earth Director, Oisín Coghlan, and is to include Senator Ivana Bacik, Irish Times columnist John Gibbons and journalist Victoria White. The new film from McLibel director Franny Armstrong stars Pete Postlethwaite as a man living alone in the devastated future world of 2055, looking back at "archive" footage from 2007 and asking why didn't we stop climate change when we had the chance. Time Out calls the film "entertaining and provocative".While the film is quite hard hitting and stark about what a climate changed future will be, furtunately it is still in the future. Friends of the Earth hopes that the panel discussion will go some way to answering the question of how to stop climate change while we do still have the chance. This event is free but ticketed.
