It's surely time to start counting the cost of climate change

WE'RE used to changeable weather, but not like this. Since 2009 we've had widespread flooding, followed by two bitterly cold winters where the country ground to a halt, while last month was the coldest March on record.

Clearly, something is happening to our climate, which could have serious implications for our food industry and how we live our lives. Farmers have borne the brunt. Torrential rainfall and bitter cold has resulted in the loss of crops and livestock.

Last month, the Government published its plan to tackle the problem and reduce emissions. But there was widespread criticism that the climate change bill didn't contain binding targets, and would not address the problem with the urgency required.
