Introducing the Growing Together Project

Growing Together is a Young Friends of the Earth Europe project across seven European Countries, including Ireland, which aims to provides a voice for young people, particularly those from rural areas, to engage with crucial debates on the future of food production, and the wider debates on the future of Europe.

Triona, staff member of Friends of the Earth and active member of Young Friends of the Earth, will be coordinating a programme of activities and opportunities for young people in Ireland to join workshops and trainings in Ireland and other European partner countries over the next two years.

The project kicked off back in November 2018 with four young people travelling to Denmark for training on engaging rural youths in conversations and actions related to food sovereignty.

V’cenza Cirefice, who went along to Denmark, shares her experience below;

"It was a real pleasure to go to this training in a very exciting disused brick factory in the Danish countryside, connecting with friends from the Young Friends of the Earth Europe network and meeting new friends from lots of different partner countries. We had a fantastic sessions on popular education, engaging rural youth and had a fertile space to come up with plenty of plans to carry out in Ireland upon our return.”

V’cenza will travel to Brussels in May to deliver a similar training to a group of youth activists from across Europe. There are upcoming opportunities for young activists to travel to Cyprus in June of this year to upskill and network with the wider European Young Friends of the Earth Europe youth activist network, particularly those working on issues relating to food.
