March 9, 2017 View all news Over 11,000 people signed the petition urging TDs to progress the Bill to ban fracking without delay. It was the fastest and biggest response to an action we have ever had. Thank you. Now we need to keep up the pressureIn tandem with Love Leitrim we presented the petition to Hildegarde Naughton, the Fine Gael TD who chairs the Oireahctas Committee scrutinizing the Bill. The Government backbencher who introduced the Bill was there as were Leitrim TDs from Fianna Fáil and Sinn Fein. We followed that with a press conference which demonstrated the breath of support a ban on fracking has: TDs from the Committee were addressed by local campaigners, water experts, student campaigners and two farming organizations, one of which was the IFA. Read this coverage from independent.ie.Our campaigning pressure worked. Despite voices saying the Bill should be delayed to allow more research or consultation, the Committee now plans to to finish its work before Easter and move the Bill back to the full Dáil.We need to raise €500 to get Mr Frackhead hereBut the fight is far from over. All our experience says we need to be there every step of the way to make sure the Bill isn't delayed, diluted or derailed. We want to bring Mr Frackhead, a Macnas-style puppet to Ireland next week. He personifies the corporate lobbyists who are desperately trying to delay the transition to a fossil free future, regardless of the local or global environmental consequences. We've been invited to join Love Leitrim in the Manorhamilton and Sligo St Patrick's Day Parades with Mr Frackhead. Local campaigners, led by Queen Maeve, are planning to run him out of town :-). And we want him outside the Dáil when the Committee formally votes on the Bill.Help us bring Mr Frackhead to IrelandIt'll cost us about €500 to get Mr Frackhead here and administer some running repairs - he's been in the wars with activists in Scotland and Lancashire! If 50 of us donate €10 then we'll have it. But we need to move quickly to get him here on time. Can you chip in today? If you can give more than €10 that would be great as we only have a few days to organize this. But whatever you can afford will go straight to our campaign to banish fracking from Ireland :-)Let's do this.Oisin Coghlan DirectorP.S. Whatever you can give will help bring Mr Frackhead to Ireland and keep the pressure on politicians to deliver a permanent ban on fracking.Only you fund our work to support the grassroots campaign to ban fracking.
