Have you heard any journalist ask any candidate in the election a question about climate change or the environment?

Tomorrow we change that. Tomorrow we break the #climatesilence.

Young Friends of the Earth and the Environmental Pillar have joined forces for a hustings.

Join us at 5.45pm on Wed 17th

In person: Wynn's Hotel, Abbey Street Lwr, D1

Online: Live streaming on Persicope - @foeireland

On Twitter: #GE16environment

We now have 6 parties who have confirmed they will have a representative there: Fine Gael (Senator Cáit Keane), Sinn Fein (Lynn Boylan MEP), AAA-PBP (Richard Boyd Barrett TD), Green Party (Eamon Ryan). Fianna Fail and Labour have yet to name their representative.

We are planning questions on issues like fracking, peat, meeting our climate targets, protecting nature and wildlife, agriculture, job creation in the circular economy, and sustainable rural communities. The event will be chaired by Sylvia Thompson of the Irish Times.

In its editorial on Saturday the Times asked "What planet are they on? An alien looking at and listening to our political leaders during the election campaign so far would surely conclude that it’s not Earth. It is some other world, where climate change does not pose an existential threat."

Join in tomorrow and help bring our politicians back down to Earth.

Oisin and the Friends of the Earth team.

P.S. Don't forget you can ask your local Dáil candidates the big energy and climate questions with a quick email we've set up for you. Put them on the spot now.

P.P.S. We need to raise €25,000 to keep our community-energy, fossil-free campaigning going in 2016. Can you pitch in?

Every euro counts. In fact anything you give right now will be TRIPLED because it’ll allow us to draw down grant funding that closes in a matter of weeks.

For every €1 you give us we’ll have €4 to fight for a fossil free future. Thanks!
