Cuppa for Climate Inchicore Event

Catch up with the organisers and attendees of the latest Cuppa for Climate event in Dublin 8!

Last week, members of the Friends of the Earth community, Collette and Catherine, took the initiative to host their very own Cuppa for Climate event in the CIA hall in Inchicore, Dublin. It was a beautiful summer evening, with homemade lemon drizzle cake, tea, coffee and a generous donation bucket to support the work of Friends of the Earth.

Below, Collette shares her thoughts and intentions behind the event;

“We both live in the area and have a personal interest in contributing positively to climate action and justice so we decided to host the Cuppa for Climate to meet like minded people based in Dublin 8.” 

Armed with Friends of the Earth’s “Cuppa for Climate Toolkit”, which is filled with prompts and ideas on how to guide the event, the conversation flowed easily around the group - who encompassed all ages and genders - to discuss local community gardens, pocket forests, cycling infrastructure and much more.

“There were nice, open conversations about our own views and experience of nature, biodiversity, climate action and justice - the Friends of the Earth guide was really helpful for directing the flow of the event. It was great to learn about new areas of nature to visit, and about the events, groups and initiatives that local people have created to be more environmentally sound, together.” - Catherine, Cuppa for Climate event organiser

This was a great premise to get the ball rolling on climate action in Dublin 8, as well as a chance to become familiar with and acknowledge the abundant actions that are already underway in the area. Connections were made, ideas formed and woes shared. Collette was so inspired that she plans to host another one soon!
