General Election candidates are invited to sign Friends of the Earth's Climate Pledge ahead of the election on 29th November.

We are asking all parties and candidates to pledge to uphold the climate law and champion faster and fairer climate action to reduce pollution in line with the binding limits on emissions adopted by the 33rd Dáil.

The text of the pledge is in the box below. It is based on Friends of the Earth’s Programme for a Government that delivers Faster and Fairer Climate Action.

If you are an election candidate and would like to sign the pledge you can do so by filling in the form at the bottom of this page.

Friends of the Earth's Climate Pledge for General Election Candidates

If elected I pledge to uphold the climate law and champion faster and fairer climate action to reduce pollution in line with the binding limits on emissions adopted by the Dáil.

I know that fast climate action means the Government leading the transformation of our energy, transport, housing and food systems so that clean, healthy choices are accessible and affordable for all.

I know that fair climate action means solutions that reduce poverty and inequality and improve quality of life for everyone, not just the wealthy. The transition will be disruptive and inconvenient at times but we can make it fair and it will safeguard our future.

I know that Ireland must do its fair share to contain climate breakdown and contribute our fair share to help those most impacted by climate chaos.

I pledge to

1. Uphold the climate law at home, and champion fast, fair and funded action globally.

And work for a Government that delivers

2. Warm homes for all, with lower bills and no fossil fuels.

3. Clean, affordable renewable energy for homes, not data centres and big tech.

4. Affordable, reliable, and accessible fossil-free transport.

5. A fair deal for family farmers, to feed Ireland and restore nature.

Note: A list of general election candidates who have signed the pledge to date is available here. (updated during business hours)
