48 Hours to Save Our Rivers ... And it'll take you less than 5 minutes to do your bit.

Ever wonder how clean our rivers and lakes really are?

The bad news is only half our waterways and bays are in good ecological health.

Tell the Government we must do better than this.

What's worse is that the Minister Eoghan Murphy's draft River Basin Management Plan is really weak: over the next three years, he only intends to clean up about 10% of our failing waters.

The public consultation closes on Thursday at 5.30pm. We've made it really easy for you to tell the Government we must do better than this. We need a robust and ambitious plan to protect our waters from pollution and degradation – for nature, for communities, for tourism, and for everyone who enjoys a splash!

The good news is that the Sustainable Water Network, of which Friends of the Earth is a member, has done a huge amount of work on what a good plan would look like. They have drafted a 100-page submission detailing the evidence basis for a whole set of recommendations to bring the plan up to scratch.

The more of us who raise our voice calling for a better plan the harder it will be for Eoghan Murphy to ignore SWAN's research and recommendations. The Government may well be hoping you won't notice their plan is woefully inadequate until it's too late to tell them to fix it.

So raise your voice now - it'll take you less than 5 minutes to make a submission using our handy online tool.

Let's act to save our rivers and coasts before it's too late.

Thank you for taking action,

Oisín Coghlan
Director

P.S. There's still time to flood Minister Murphy with demands that he does more to protect our waterways and bays. Please do forward this email to anyone you know who loves rivers and coasts.

And please Share this Facebook post and Retweet this Tweet to spread the word about the consultation.
