Tell election candidates that you're a climate voter

Dear (each candidate will get a separate, personalised email),

As a local constituent I want to thank you for running for our local council.

Like many people I care about our environment and worry about climate change. This coming election I will vote for the candidate that commits to delivering faster and fairer climate action.

Many of the things we need to do to address the climate and biodiversity crisis require changes at the local level, in our community and made by our councillors.

Our council can and will play a pivotal role in building communities where people and nature thrive, with well insulated, affordable homes that are cheap and easy to heat, regular public transport, green spaces for all to enjoy, clean water to drink and clean air to breathe.

I want my local election candidates to:

- Sign Friends of the Earth’s Climate Pledge available here: https://www.friendsoftheearth.ie/news/climate-pledge-for-council-candidates/

-Deliver the Local Climate Action Plans, by properly resourcing them and holding management to account for implementing them.

- Provide clean energy, by prioritising renewable energy projects and upgrades to the electricity grid.

- Prioritise those at risk of energy poverty in all retrofitting programmes.

- Enforce energy efficiency improvements in the private rented properties, so renters benefit from warmer homes too.

- Reject further data centre developments given their long-term reliance on dirty fossil fuels.

- Support international initiatives to end our dependence on dirty energy including by supporting a future phase-out treaty.

- Ensure communities have access to green spaces.

- Reduce our dependence on fossil fuel cars, improve public transport and active travel infrastructure.

- Provide safe water to drink and clean air to breathe by protecting and restoring our ecosystems, reducing the impact of agricultural and industrial activities across air, water, waste and noise.

We are at a crucial time in the climate emergency and the outcome of this local election is critical. As a constituent I will support candidates that will prioritise climate action in our council for the next five years.
