This is great news! Now we want to make sure that schools get their solar panels without long delays. The Department of Education is responsible for distributing funding for solar panels to schools but it still hasn't provided information on how and when schools can apply for this funding. It's time to put some pressure on the Minister for Education to make sure this information is made available to schools quickly. Use our e-action to send the Minister an email today. Solar panels will help schools break free from their reliance on harmful fossil fuels like gas and oil - making them beacons of hope in their communities. When we work together we can create a brighter future. Check Your Message Message Subject: Edit the email subject line - (optional) Message Text: Dear (each target will get a separate, personalised email), I was delighted to learn last year that Budget 2023 provided funding for schools to install solar panels on their roofs. Solar panels will provide schools with a whole range of positive benefits. It will help schools reduce their climate polluting emissions, reduce their energy costs and provide the entire school community with a hopeful sign of inclusive climate action and a better, brighter and cleaner future. It’s no wonder that the idea of putting solar panels on schools enjoys huge popularity; in 2020, 400 schools entered Friends of the Earth’s competition for the chance to win solar panels for their roofs. The winning schools’ excitement at getting their solar panels and students’ support for climate action was hugely encouraging - as is documented in the Friends of the Earth video here: https://bit.ly/SolarSchoolsFilm. It’s crucial that solar energy is not the sole preserve of only a few prize winning schools however. With the climate crisis accelerating by the day, there is no time to waste in putting solar panels on every school in Ireland. I’m therefore writing to ask you: (a) When will schools be able to start applying to your Department for funding for their solar panels? (b) What is the process for schools wishing to apply to your Department for this funding? I do hope you can answer these questions and provide clarity on how schools can get their solar panels as a matter of urgency, in particular given that we have known since last September that schools’ solar panel costs would be covered. Looking forward to hearing back from you. Yours sincerely etc, Edit the email text - (optional) Next Step - Preview your message → Categorised in: Climate Change Energy Friends of the Earth Tagged with: solar Solar Schools
